NH - UNBC Climate & Health Knowledge Exchange Event

April 12, 2024

Aligned with Provincial efforts to move towards a climate-resilient health system, Northern Health is developing a Climate Change and Health portfolio of work.

A health system that is climate resilient is "capable of anticipating, responding to, coping with, recovering from, and adapting to climate-related shocks and stress, to bring about sustained improvements in population health, despite an unstable climate" (WHO, 2021).

Addressing climate change is a shared responsibility of the entire health system, and intersectoral work is essential to achieving co-benefits of climate adaptation and mitigation.

This gathering created an opportunity to:

  • Share UNBC initiatives relevant to climate and health priorities
  • Profile and share early work from the Climate Change and Health team at Northern Health
  • Identify synergies and pathways for collaboration

This event was an opportunity for Northern Health staff and UNBC researchers interested in climate change to come together to: learn about existing work, tap into northern BC expertise, leverage resources and identify synergies.

For Northern Health Participants, please contact Diana Kutzner: diana.kutzner@northernhealth.ca

During this event, Lisa Rickard gave an overview of the ”Health and Climate" project on the Nechako Watershed Portal. To get a preview of this project on the Nechako Watershed Portal, use this link: https://nechakowatershed-portal.ca/?loadProjectId=14
