Learning from Eco-social Approaches to Public Health
Makayla previously worked with Dr. Parkes and many of the alumni here as a project coordinator for the ECHO Network and as a research assistant with the LEAPH-Lab, Koh-Learning, and Nechako Watershed Portal groups. These roles allowed Makayla to explore Geographic information systems (GIS) through the Nechako Watershed Portal, contribute to the Koh-learning in our Watersheds group through exploring meaningful youth engagement and also taking various roles on ECHO teams such as the Trainee team and ECHO&YOUth team. All of the learning with the people of the LEAPH Lab has had an exciting impact in medical school where thinking through complexity of relations (to the land, each other, and systems like healthcare and education) seems slightly less daunting!
